RESIDENCE "IL SALVIATINO - FIESOLE (FI)
A building sits just outside Florence, at the foot of the hills around Fiesole, which was built in “Liberty” style in 1909 as an innovative hospital and then completed by a surrounding botanical garden to enhance the already renowned healthiness of the area.
It became later an aid centre for unmarried women and, afterwards, a hospital for children. It was abandoned in ruin in the late 90s.
In 2002 it was bought by an important real estate company, specialised in the recovery of prestigious buildings, and turned into a luxurious residence with 13 apartments.
The designers have made a radical intervention on the conservative and artistic restoration while maintaining the charm of the original design and demanding, for the new project, the highest quality for the internal and external finishing. A special attention was paid to the external doors and windows in order to let in as much light as possible. Thin OS2 system in painted steel profiles were used to achieve this, making it possible to close the large window holes – 160 x 360 cm – while maintaining their original design. This solution presents two advantages: the use of the thermal break system and the better acoustic insulation, particularly appreciated in this context.
