FORMER POST OFFICE PALACE - CALTANISSETTA

Caltanisetta, an important town in central Sicily, has an interesting historical centre rich in monuments, churches and palaces of  exquisite style.
The Post and Telecommunication Palace was designed in an eclectic style by Ing. Lombardo and built in the 1920s on the remains of the Church of S. Antonino (right in the heart of the historical centre). It's understandable, therefore, that the restoration of the Palace would be subject to limitations by the Superintendence of Cultural and Architectural Heritage.
The Palace was recently restored and the typical aspects of the “littorio” period, of which important decorative details remain, were preserved.
One of the most challenging aspects faced by the Designer was the choice of the material for the window that were completely replaced. After careful evaluations of technical, formal and economical nature, Cor-Ten was chosen. This is a material with a very “natural” look, not painted, with little need for maintenance and in line with the strict statutory architectural regulations.
The material is characterised by natural air oxidation that prevents its corrosion by forming a protective layer and giving it an extraordinary visual effect.
