2010 > Monumental Complex of the Franciscan Cloisters in Ravenna

Saturday, 11th December, the reopening ceremony of the Monumental Complex of the Franciscan cloisters -strongly supported and implemented by the local Cassa di Risparmio- was held in Ravenna, in the presence of the city authorities and the Superintendent of the Architectural Heritage Antonella Ranaldi.

This important restoration project, in close proximity to Dante’s Tomb, provides the city with an exclusive area dedicated to public use which will soon host the Historical Archives and the Savings Bank Library, a 70-seat conference room and a multifunctional room, as well as the historical Dante’s Museum, the Library of the Dantesque Centre and Enzo Bettiza’s book collection which includes volumes of Northern European and Balkan literature and philosophy.

The project has been developed by the architecture studio Koinè Progetti in Ravenna which has also followed the difficult course of the restoration work in the last 3 years: in particular, Cor-Ten steel Secco system borders were used to manufacture the window frames of the upper loggias in both courtyards, which are divided by Istrian stone columns with Doric capitals. The Cor-Ten profiles were also used for doors and internal partitions on the ground level.
